Information, Prepared with Care
Orsten was founded to fill a specific gap: practical trade mark awareness materials that Malaysian business teams can actually use before they sit down with an advisor.
Back to HomeOur Background
Orsten began from a straightforward observation: many Malaysian founders and business teams encounter trade mark considerations during the ordinary course of building their organisations — when they are choosing a brand name, engaging a supplier, producing marketing content, or managing their product range. Yet the materials available to help them navigate these situations were either written in heavily technical language or oriented entirely toward jurisdictions outside Malaysia.
We set out to produce a different kind of resource. Not advisory. Not a substitute for qualified practitioners. But well-structured, locally contextualised, plain-language information that arrives before a person needs professional counsel — so that when they do engage a practitioner, both sides of that conversation are more productive.
Our suite currently includes a downloadable Information Pack for individual founders, a half-day workshop for commercial teams, and a ten-week consulting engagement to help organisations design their own internal brand-portfolio awareness programmes. Each item has a defined scope, a transparent price in Malaysian Ringgit, and a clear statement of what it is and is not.

What We Stand For
Clarity Over Jargon
Every piece of content we produce goes through a plain-language review. If a concept can be expressed without technical terminology, it is.
Local Relevance
Materials are built around scenarios common in Malaysian commercial life. We do not adapt foreign templates; we write from a Malaysian starting point.
Honest Positioning
We state clearly, in every context, that our materials are informational only and do not replace the advice of a qualified practitioner. This is not a disclaimer we hide — it is a principle we lead with.

How We Work
Editorial Review Process
Every document passes through a structured review covering accuracy, readability, local relevance, and disclaimer compliance before release.
Content Maintenance
The Information Pack carries a six-month update window. Registered recipients receive revised editions when the landscape warrants an update.
Data Handling
Client and enquiry data is handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy and stored securely. We do not share personal information with third parties except as necessary for service delivery.
Scope Transparency
Every engagement is confirmed in writing with a defined scope, a proforma invoice, and explicit delivery terms before any work begins.
Positioning Discipline
We do not present our materials as substitutes for legal or professional advice. This distinction is reflected in every document, session, and client communication.
Client Feedback Integration
Feedback from workshop participants and programme clients is reviewed after each engagement and used to inform subsequent revisions of our materials.
Trade Mark Awareness as Operational Preparation
For many Malaysian businesses, trade mark questions arise at moments that are not well-suited to starting a formal advisory engagement from scratch — during a product launch, when a vendor agreement raises unexpected issues, or when a marketing team produces content that may involve third-party brand elements. Having a shared vocabulary and a basic orientation toward trade mark categories means these moments are handled with more consideration and less uncertainty.
Orsten's materials are designed for exactly this purpose. The Information Pack gives individual founders a starting reference point. The workshop brings a commercial team's informal knowledge into a structured conversation. The Programme Build gives an organisation the tools to continue that education internally, with materials calibrated to their own industry context.
None of this replaces qualified advice. But organisations that have engaged with structured awareness materials approach their practitioners with clearer questions, more relevant context, and a better sense of where the boundaries of general information end and specific advice begins. That, in practice, makes the overall process more productive for everyone involved.
